Green Earth Ventures has experience spanning the last 12 years in new home construction and land development working closely with home builders and home owners alike. NAHB Accredited Verifier

Several years ago, the NAHB established a set of design guidelines for builders constructing environmentally friendly homes. These have now been in practical use for several years, but until recently there wasn't a universal certification process available for home builders. Now there is.

As a NAHB accredited verifier, Green Earth Ventures remains in good standing with the NAHB by completing and passing the most current training and testing required to maintain our accreditation to the National Green Building Standard. The NAHB Green Certification scoring system is both strict and exacting. To achieve certification, aside from meeting the initial construction and citing requirements, a builder must choose a verifier to independently evaluate and certify the property through documentation review and on-site inspections. All green program requirements and points specified by a builder must be in place in order for a candidate home to achieve certification. As an independent accredited verifier, Green Earth Ventures ensures credibility by providing that third-party review.

NAHB Point System

There are four different Green levels a builder can achieve using the National Green Building Standard; Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Emerald. At all levels, there are a minimum number of points required for each of the six "Guiding Principles" (see below) in order to assure that all aspects of green building are addressed and that there is a balanced, whole-systems approach. The table below outlines the various green building levels.

Comparing the project's points for the individual guiding principles to the chart above will determine whether the project is deemed a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Emerald level.

Green Consulting for Home Builders

Green Earth Ventures helps you at each stage of development and construction to ensure you will meet the proper requirements. Our services are customized to fit each builder's needs. We will review your requirements during our initial consultation, and then a schedule will be established to start the design review and address the steps leading up to green certification. When a builder opts to build green, he must first make the decision of whether to add green features to a house, or make the commitment to obtain a level of certification as set forth by the National Green Building Standard. Either way the builder should take into consideration the following two points;

Environmental considerations should be incorporated into the project from the very beginning. It is much harder to weave green home concepts into a project after the house plans are finished.
The green home should be looked at as a whole as the builder determines which of the green home guideline items to put into the house. For example, making a home's building envelope tighter through air sealing and quality building techniques can affect the way in which the builder designs the home's ventilation system. It is through such a forward-thinking process that builders can gain cost efficiencies.
